Day 5 – Christmas

Day 5 – Christmas

So the Grinch killed Christmas, and the East Dry Whoville community was enraged?
The same Christmas with felony charges that can’t even fit on one page?
Now I’m not going to sit here and pretend that men and women can’t change…
But as your block our roads & throw stones at my people, tell me again, about how Christmas was so well behaved…

And while you’re at it, tell me, does innocence truly mean anything to you?
You had the gall to block the roadways next to a couple of primary schools…
And act a fool, in the presence of those now developing their own world view…
Now some of these kids will know only fear, or even more terrifyingly, emulate you…

And for what? Why now? Why never when innocent blood is spilled?
When our children are killed, or as our women are constantly assaulted, with some even missing still?
Where are your loud voices then? As Cindy Lou pleads for your attention & cries,
That your priorities are all lies, and you laugh maniacally with May Who as your nation dies….

See that’s the problem isn’t it? There’s always someone else to blame…
When you seek the easy way, and want to only continue on this hand out plane…
But the instant there’s an altitude change, and there’s turbulence as hardship reigns…
You’re gonna blame the ones in the cockpit, forgetting the fact that ALL of our destination’s the same…

See the way I see it, this is a problem that desperately needs to be addressed…
Whether you’re in a tux or a vest, you gat-damn better believed you’re blessed…
Life is such a short thing, for us to be fighting this hard amongst each other…
You’re my sisters & brothers, so why can’t you too see that we all need one another?

Could it be, perhaps, since we spent the past few weeks preparing to be chipping down Oxford Street…
That all of our shoes are too tight on our feet? Our heads just weren’t screwed on right on that first day of the week…
Could the most likely reason of all, may have been that over the years, our hearts have shrunk two sizes too small?
That we’re cold and bitter to the police & each other, and our hearts simply need to be thawed…

Out; But I doubt it’s something that can be instantly changed…
So I’m gonna get my guitar and sing like Nappy Mayers, and hope we bring back the old time days…
Where we cared for each other, lived like brothers, respected one another & prayed…
And hope that on that day, in Whoville & environs they will all say – that the small, cold heart of the Grinch and all his friends grew three sizes that day…
